Nahmakanta Lake Maine, Our off the grid beautiful Non Pandemic Getaway! No mask required!

ree

This blog is not only about our homestead but also we like to share our adventures. All of us really enjoy nature and all it has to offer, which in our opinion is much more than can be described! This adventure took place at Nahmakanta Lake here in Maine, it is a nice secluded spot so I will make you work at googling or looking at a map to find out where it is. After we drive what seems like forever (but its really not) we come upon the big boulders and the boat dolly that is always there to welcome you. We then walk down the path to the water to try and see if there are camping spots available across the lake at the remote spots and excitement and nervousness grew in my stomach. It looked as though an empty spot was available, at the remote spots they are accessable by boat only, it takes alot more effort but the privacy is well worth the work.

We decided on the remote site and walked back up the path to where the truck and boat were parked so we could bring the boat down to the water. While the guys were getting the boat and motor situated Bela (our yellow lab daughter) and I began bringing all our supplies down to the water so we could boat them across. Let me just tell you ahead of time that whenever the Smith Family goes on an adventure it is always a true adventure with something crazy happening! We dollied the boat down to the water and most of the supplies and it was decided that Bela and I would be boated across first so I could start setting up camp and then the guys would make another trip with the rest of the supplies. Jeryme (my handsome husband) came back with the coolers and cooking tote so I could get the kitchen area set up as I had almost gotten the tent fully up. Then he left to go and get Taylor and the Kayaks.....this is where it gets interesting......

Bela and I had been setting up camp for quite awhile on the secluded beach point and I had not heard the sound of the boat for awhile.....all of a sudden I see Taylor (our adult son) heading my way via kayak hauling my empty kayak behind. I was so glad to see him as I was worried and of course my first question, where is dad and the boat???? Come to find out the boat motor had failed and he had to go back to civilization to borrow another motor. Taylor and I set up camp while we waited for our fearless leader, it took almost four hours before he could get to us and of course we had motor trouble our whole trip so it was quite a bummer. We made the best of it and stayed the two nights and enjoyed our private beach site and each others company. We kayaked and went to a remote pond fishing spot that we always like to visit while on this trip.

The Appalachian Trail runs along the opposite side of the lake that we camped on and it goes through the sites that are on the boat landing spot. It is neat to here the hikers talking as they are going, in the evening it sounds like we are right next to them because of the way sound carries over the water. Our daily schedule while here looked like this: wake up to the loons and sounds of the water, coffee by the campfire overlooking the water, cooked camp breakfast, got dressed and went on adventures, relaxed with beverages in the sun on the sand, snacked all day, supper cooked on the campfire, bathed in the lake and then comfy clothes and campfire shenanigans until bedtime when we retired to our tents to listen to the loons and watch the fire dance outside of our tent.

I think ecspecially during these crazy times it is important to get away, unplug and get back to a normal way of life, which to us is nature and being ourselves. I hope that we can inspire people to let loose and head out on an adventure trek, even if it's just a day trip or just for a few hours. You will feel recharged and your mind will be cleared of all the daily clutter. I hope you all get to find something that brings you joy and has a positive mental impact on you and your family. Until next time, stay true to yourself and enjoy what the earth has to offer.

I have this leash for Bela and it is a life saver! It helped getting supplies down to the water, I could have my hands free and she was right with me.

This is the tent we have except ours is red, it sets up easy and if you keep the rain fly off it is fully screen on top for star gazing!

I bought this for Jeryme at Christmas time, its a great deal and heavy duty. We could just brought this one pan with us for cooking over the fire, it is nice and deep!

Here is the type of Kayak I have, it is nice and light weight, not tippy at all on the water! Nice and sturdy and has storage compartments.

Each of us brought our Yeti ramblers with us and that is all we needed to keep our coffee hot and then later in the day to keep our water and other beverages cold. It saved on packing space to just have one cup each.
